Mobile Number Portibility – How to & FAQ

If you are not satisfied with your mobile service operator, then you can change it without changing your phone number. It is now possible to change the mobile operator without changing your number through Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in India from 20th this month. And you also don’t have to pay miuch for this; you can change the operator in just 19 rupees!


How to change the service?

If you are willing to change your service provider, follow the steps given below:

  • Go to text message and write PORT and then your number and send it to 1900
  • After sending this message, you will shortly receive a unique porting code.
  • Now you are free to choose your favorite service provider, for the same number, Of course!
  • The next step is just to get a form of your desired service provider, and fill all information along with the unique porting code.
  • You have to submit your documents, such as your photo ID, address proof etc, and pay just 19 Rs!
  • After filling the form and completing all the required paper work, you will get a new sim card of the service provider that you are switching to.
  • That’s all! Your service provider will be changed within 7 days, and the new sim would be activated!

FAQ’s

  1. What if you have applied for change of service provider and decided not to change it?
    >>Simply roll back your application within 24 hrs, but the 19 Rs processing fees would not be returned.
  2. Applicant need to submit address proof and photo ID again?
    >>Yes, you have to submit the respected documents every time you change the service provider.
  3. How long it will take to change the service provider?
    >>It will take a minimum of 4 and maximum of 7 days.
  4. The applicant should have to save GPRS, MMS settings again?
    >>Yes, the applicant have to save GPRS, MMS settings again.
  5. What can a postpaid customer do to use MNP?
    >>The applicant has to pay the previous bill and attach a copy of it while filling the new service provider’s form.
  6. Can service be changed if bill is unpaid?
    >>Yes, it can be changed but the applicant has to pay the previous bill otherwise the new connection will be terminated.
  7. The remaining balance of a prepaid customer would be transferred to the new one?
    >>No, the remaining balance would be dissolved, it won’t be transferred.
  8. Can service be changed outside the home circle?
    >>No, applicant cannot switch to other’s service while out of circle.
  9. Sim card should also be changed if switched to the other operator?
    >>Yes, the applicant will get a new sim card of the same service provider, he has switched to.
  10. Is it possible to switch between CDMA to GSM and vice versa?
    >>Yes, it is possible to shift between CDMA and GSM.
  11. Is there any time-restriction during switching the operator?/when can an applicant switch to another operator?
    >>Applicant cannot switch to other operator just after switching. Applicant has to use the service of the switched operator for at least 3 months.
  12. Is there any restriction to change the operator just after switching from one to second operator?
    >>Yes, the applicant has to wait for 3 months to shift to the other network.
  13. Is it possible to switch from prepaid to postpaid and vice versa?
    >> Yes, it is possible to shift between prepaid and postpaid.
